IMMORTAL: Gates of Pyre

The Brief
SunSpear Games needed comprehensive visual consistency leadership to elevate IMMORTAL: Gates of Pyre's brand presence across all touchpoints: from in-game interfaces to marketing campaigns. As the visual consistency lead, the challenge was to maintain cohesive brand identity across diverse platforms while creating compelling promotional materials that would drive player engagement and strengthen brand recognition.

The Client
SunSpear Games™, Inc. is a development studio with a deep background in creating several of the most popular mods for Skyrim and Starcraft and developing the internationally known keyboard layout for professional players called The Core.

SunSpear Games is pursuing its goal to reignite RTS fans – with IMMORTAL: Gates of Pyre™- a real-time strategy game in which players assume the role of Immortal, leading armies as godlike generals to dominate the battlefield and conquer their rivals.

Across many worlds, these "Immortals" lead their proud and mighty civilizations to victory with unique structures, troops, and powerful abilities, helping them achieve ultimate victory.

STEAM WEEKEND PLAYTEST EVENT CAMPAIGN


To generate excitement around IMMORTAL: Gates of Pyre’s Steam playtest weekend, I designed a full set of campaign visuals rooted in faction identity and game lore. Assets included high-impact hero cards, countdown reminders, and event announcements optimized for use across social, web, and client platforms. The goal was to drive sign-ups and create urgency while keeping the tone cinematic and immersive.

2022

Creative Brief

Working closely with the SunSpear Games team, we established creative frameworks that would serve multiple campaign objectives while maintaining brand coherence. This phase involved developing detailed brand guidelines that would ensure visual consistency across all future campaigns, establishing clear parameters for color usage, typography, imagery treatment, and tone of voice. We created a comprehensive style guide that balanced the game's epic fantasy elements with practical application needs for social media, email campaigns, and promotional materials.

Asset Gathering

We conducted extensive research into gaming industry visual trends, analyzing how successful RTS and fantasy games approach promotional campaigns and brand consistency. This included developing a visual language that could effectively represent different game factions, creating mood boards that captured the transition from divine grandeur to battle intensity, and establishing a library of visual elements (textures, patterns, iconography) that could be consistently applied across campaigns while maintaining the game's immersive God-like aesthetic.

Production Phase

The production phase focused on creating scalable design systems that could efficiently generate campaign materials while maintaining visual consistency. Each campaign maintained the game's core visual identity while developing unique sub-themes that reflected specific event characteristics, adapted to different platforms and use cases.

Final Delivery

We completed comprehensive quality assurance testing across all designed materials, ensuring optimal performance on each target platform. This included testing email campaigns across different email clients, validating social media graphics on various platforms, and confirming that all promotional materials met technical specifications for their intended use cases.
